Howard Levinson, MD, FACS is a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon at Duke University and is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Surgery, Dermatology, and Pathology. He is on the ASPS Board of Directors, has been a member of multiple DOD and NIH study sections, and has been PI on multiple grants from the NIH, Coulter foundation, DTMI, NC Biotech, and MedBlue. He is Founder of Deep Blue Medical Advances, a medical device company whose mission is to commercial Medical Devices.
Dr Levinson cares for patients with complex wounds both at Duke University and the Veterans Administration Hospital in Durham, North Carolina.
Dr Levinson’s interdisciplinary team uses in vitro and in vivo pre-clinical models to understand disease pathogenesis and develop new technologies. He works closely with Duke engineers, veterinarians, TTO, and regulatory affairs office, as well as with industry. His funding includes grants from industry sponsored research, foundation and society funding, and from the National Institutes of Health. He is past chairman of the Plastic Surgery Foundation Research Fundamentals Workshop, Plastic Surgery Foundation Research Education Committee, Basic Science Study Section and the Plastic Surgery Research Council.
