Daniel M Siegel
Daniel M Siegel, MD, is in private practice with Long Island Skin Cancer and Dermatologic Surgery in Smithtown, New York and is also Clinical Professor of Dermatology at SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn, New York and is a former President of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD).
Dr. Siegel received his medical degree from Albany Medical College in New York, completing his residency in dermatology at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas. This was followed by a Fellowship at Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Dr. Siegel also earned a Master of Science degree in management and policy from the W. Averell Harriman School for Management and Policy, State University of New York at Stony Brook, and holds an Advanced Certificate in Labor/Management.
Dr. Siegel has served many professional organizations. He currently serves as a member of the board of directors of the International League of Dermatologic Societies. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology and the American Board of Laser Surgery and is a Fellow of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), and the American College of Mohs Surgery. He has served on the board of directors for many of these societies, including the American College of Mohs Surgery, the AAD, and the Women’s Dermatologic Society. Dr. Siegel is a founding board member of debRA International and a trustee of Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa Research Association of America, Inc. (DebRA,) He was also a trustee of the Noah Worcester Dermatological Society and has chaired the Scientific Program Committee for various of its annual meetings. He is one of the 30 esteemed active members of the New York Dermatological Society. Since 2015 he has served as member of the board of the International League of Dermatological Societies, a “society of societies” that coordinates a quadrennial world congress of Dermatology and supports the Regional Dermatology Training Center in Moshi, Tanzania that has trained hundred of physicians in sub-Saharan Africa. In April 2017 he was elected to the board of directors of the International society of Dermatology.
Dr. Siegel has published more than 100 articles and book chapters in major medical journals and textbooks. He is a reviewer, editor, or advisor for major dermatology journals. His more than 500 lectures have been presented at national and international congresses. His expertise extends to a variety of area outside of “routine” dermatology including among many cutting edge computer technology and botany. He also served from 2003 to 2010 as the AAD representative to American Medical Association Specialty Society RVS Update Committee (RUC) and current serves as the AAD advisor to the RUC.
Dr. Siegel has received the 2013 American Skin Association Public Policy & Medical Education Award and the 2012 Clinical Educator Award from the 2012 Winter Clinical Dermatology Conference. Among Dr. Siegel’s many other awards are the Academy of Dermatology Presidential Citation, which he received in 2000, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2015, 2016 and 2017. He was the 2009 recipient of the President’s Volunteer Service Award, and, in 2008, he received the American College of Mohs Surgery Distinguished Service Award. For several years in a row, Dr. Siegel has been listed as one of Castle Connolly’s New York Metro Area “Top Doctors.” In recognition of his years of service to the profession, he was awarded honorary membership in the American Academy of Dermatology in 2015.
